Housing policy is devolved in Wales, but housing benefit policy is not. Therefore the changes to housing benefit proposed by the UK Government, including the reduction in benefit following the introduction of a size criteria in social rented housing, will affect households in Wales.

Purpose
The Committee will examine the issue of under-occupancy and will discuss the availability of suitable accommodation in the social and private rental sectors in Wales. The Committee will also examine the direct payment of the housing element of Universal Credit to social housing tenants, due to come into effect nationally in October 2013.
