First oral evidence session for Women and Sport inquiry

The Culture, Media and Sport Committee will hold its first oral evidence session for its Women and Sport inquiry on 12 November.
The Culture, Media and Sport Committee announced an inquiry into women and sport on 26 July 2013, to look into a number of issues that are currently raising concerns. The successes of Team GB’s female athletes in the Olympics last year should have resulted in greater prominence for women’s sporting achievements and encouraged more girls and women to participate in sport. However, it appears that women’s sport still faces a number of disadvantages compared with sport for men.
This first session will focus on the main barriers that exist to women’s participation in sport from the perspectives of both organisations dedicated to encouraging the take up of sport among women and from individuals who are players and officials.
