Esther McVey MP questioned on role of Jobcentre Plus

The Work and Pensions Select Committee has today announced the final oral evidence session for its inquiry into the role of Jobcentre Plus (JCP) in the reformed welfare system.
The Committee will hear evidence from the new Minister for Employment, Esther McVey MP.

Purpose of the session
The session will cover the range of issues highlighted in the inquiry, including:
- the potential for a UK Jobseeker Classification Instrument;
- whether JCP’s key performance measures can be amended to encourage more sustained employment outcomes;
- the potential for efficiencies afforded by Universal Credit and Universal Jobmatch;
- the resource implications of recent policy announcements, including weekly signing for half of all jobseekers;
- JCP’s approach to benefit conditionality and sanctions;
- its approach to wider reforms, particularly the Benefit Cap and localisation of elements of the discretionary Social Fund.
