Purpose of the session
The first part of the session focuses on safeguarding children and young people, particularly in out of authority placements. It looks at preventing and responding to children who run away and go missing from care, the importance of multi-agency working, and the role of Local Safeguarding Children’s Boards (LSCBs). The second part of the session looks at the commercial aspects of providing residential child care. It focuses on the commissioning of placements and the ownership of residential children’s homes.
