The Treasury Committee has  today published a letter from the Chairman of the Committee, Andrew Tyrie MP, to the Governor of the Bank of England, Dr Mark Carney, seeking clarification on the scope and limits of the Bank’s role in the Government’s Help to Buy: mortgage guarantee scheme.

Commenting on the letter, the Chairman of the Treasury Committee, Andrew Tyrie MP, said:

“The scope and limits of the Bank’s role in this scheme need a good deal of clarification, both to safeguard the Bank’s authority to act in fulfilment of its statutory responsibility for financial stability and to safeguard its independence.”
