Glasgow City Council questioned on impact of the Bedroom Tax

The Scottish Affairs Committee takes evidence from Glasgow City Council at 2.30pm on Wednesday 9 October 2013.
The Welfare Reform Act 2012 introduced new size criteria for housing benefit claims in the social rented sector. The removal of the spare room subsidy, also known as the ‘Bedroom Tax’ or ‘under-occupation penalty’, came into force on 1 April 2013.
The Committee is inquiring into how changes to housing benefit, and the introduction of the spare room subsidy or bedroom tax, will impact upon people in Scotland.
Glasgow City Council are responsible for paying housing benefit to thousands of tenants in Scotland.
This session hopes to explore how the changes have affected claimants in Glasgow, and the resources available to the City Council to meet their needs.
