Lords Committee on Olympic Legacy to question Ministers Maria Miller and Hugh Robertson

The House of Lords Committee on the Olympic and Paralympic Legacy will this week take evidence from Maria Miller, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport.

Purpose
The Ministers will be asked whether it is realistic for the UK to expect a sustained increase participation in sport after hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games when no other host nations have experienced that, why the Government had decided against its early position to combine UK Sport and Sport England; whether an opportunity has been missed in capturing the 300,000 people who expressed an interest in volunteering after the games; whether the Paralympics changed the perception of people with disabilities; and whether enough is being done to ensure UK businesses see economic benefits.The session will also focus on the regeneration legacy, and seek to establish whether the Government and the Mayor have the right arrangements in place to deliver the maximum possible degree of regeneration in East London.
