Nation branding experts give evidence on soft power

The House of Lords Committee on Soft Power and the UK’s Influence takes evidence from leading experts in nation branding as they continue their inquiry.

- Simon Anholt, nation brand adviser and author of the Anholt-GfK Roper Nation Brands Index;
- Jonathan McClory, policy and place branding consultant, author of the IfG-Monocle Soft Power Index;
- Agnès Poirier, commentator on politics and French-British relations.
The evidence session will cover a range of issues including whether a nation can effectively deploy ‘soft power’ to increase its influence only if it also has ‘hard power’, what other countries find attractive about the UK and how the UK can build on its appeal, how the country might convert its successful performance in international soft power rankings into tangible benefits, and whether the UK Government should draw up a soft power strategy.
