A statement from The Rt Hon Margaret Hodge MP, Chair of the Committee of Public Accounts

The Border Force did well to reduce queuing times both during and after the Olympics, but it is deeply worrying that this came at the expense of its other responsibilities, particularly customs.

The Border Force must be able to check both goods and passengers at the same time - border security cannot be an either or choice. The Border Force needs to focus on developing and implementing its workforce plan to ensure it has the right number of staff in the right places, and make better use of intelligence and technology.

The Border Force must be in a position to deliver world-class border controls at all times.
