Evidence session for inquiry into Jobcentre Plus announced

The Work and Pensions Select Committee has today announced the third of six planned oral evidence sessions for its inquiry into the role of Jobcentre Plus (JCP) in the reformed welfare system.
This evidence session will be with the Public and Commercial Services union, which represents the majority of Jobcentre staff, followed by a panel of witnesses representing externally contracted employment services and training providers.
The session will focus on JCP’s role as a public employment service, including its effectiveness as the gateway to contracted provision such as the Work Programme and Work Choice. It will also consider JCP’s ability to monitor and respond to local labour market needs and opportunities, through initiatives including the Flexible Support Fund and Sector-based work academies.
The Committee issued terms of reference for this inquiry on 19 April.
