In a bumper week of evidence sessions, the House of Lords Committee charged with investigating the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games continues its inquiry with three days of evidence sessions.

Purpose

The focus of the Committee’s sessions over the week will be wide-ranging, from exploring the genuine legacy in terms of the regeneration of East London with the Mayor’s Legacy Development Corporation and housing companies, to the question of whether the outstanding successes of Team GB at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games can be sustained at Rio and beyond; and what lessons from London the IOC will apply to the organisation of future Games.

The promise made by the successful bid team in Singapore in 2005 was for the legacy to benefit the whole of the UK, not just London. The Committee will be asking for the views of the bodies responsible for sport in Scotland and Wales whether the Games legacy is living up to this pledge. The Committee will also examine whether there is an enduring legacy for volunteering in the UK and will examine the role of PE in schools.
