Call for evidence - Foundation years: Government response

The Education Committee requests written submissions on Foundation years: Sure Start children's centres - Government response by midday on Tuesday 3 June 2014.
The Education Committee takes evidence on Wednesday 18 June 2014 from Elizabeth Truss MP, Minister for Education and Childcare, Department for Education, on the Government’s response to the Committee’s report on Foundation years: Sure Start children’s centres. Further details will be announced in due course.
The session covers issues relating to the Committee’s report (December 2013) and the Government response (published as the Fifth Special Report from the Committee in March 2014). These include the purpose and effectiveness of Sure Start centres, outcomes and accountability, reaching children and families in need, funding, commissioning and planning, and workforce and leadership development.
Brief written comments are invited on the Government response in advance of the hearing. In view of the short timescale of this inquiry, submissions should be kept brief and should be made by midday on Tuesday 3 June 2014.
Submissions
As part of a scheme to encourage paperless working and maximise efficiency, the Committee is using a new web portal for online submissions of written evidence. Written submissions for this inquiry should therefore be sent via the Foundation Years: Sure Start children’s centres – Government response inquiry page.
The deadline is Tuesday 3 June. Submissions should be no longer than two sides of A4.
Submissions should be in the format of a self-contained memorandum. Paragraphs should be numbered for ease of reference, and the document should, if possible, include an executive summary.
Submissions should be original work, not previously published or circulated elsewhere. Once submitted, your submission becomes the property of the Committee and no public use should be made of it unless you have first obtained permission from the Clerk of the Committee. Please bear in mind that Committees are not able to investigate individual cases.

The Committee normally, though not always, chooses to publish the written evidence it receives, either by printing the evidence, publishing it on the internet or by making it publicly available through the Parliamentary Archives. If there is any information you believe to be sensitive you should highlight it and explain what harm you believe would result from its disclosure; the Committee will take this into account in deciding whether to publish or further disclose the evidence. Please proof-read your submission before sending it; Committee staff cannot undertake to correct typos or typesetting errors before publication.
