Purpose of the meeting

The session will consider and challenge the Government’s position on a range of issues highlighted during the inquiry, including:

• the effectiveness of the joint DWP/HMRC fraud and error strategy, published in 2010 and "refreshed" in 2012, including progress made towards key performance targets;
• the likely impacts on fraud and error of the introduction of Universal Credit;
• the role of local authorities in: the administration of Housing Benefit; the housing element of Universal Credit; and the Single Fraud Investigation Service; and
• possible new approaches to tackling fraud and error in the benefits system, including greater use of private sector data and use of new technologies.
