Your opportunity to question Eric Pickles - #AskPickles
2 December 2014
Interested in local government? Do you have a question for Eric Pickles? MPs on the Communities and Local Government Committee want to know.
On 16 December, the Communities and Local Government Committee will put questions to Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. MPs on the Committee want to ensure that their questions reflect the most pressing concerns about local government. They want suggestions for questions to put to Mr Pickles.
By end of this parliament, Mr Pickles will have been Communities Secretary for five years, and this will be an excellent opportunity to ask for his reflections on the work and performance of his department over that period.
The Committee is inviting suggestions for questions on any of the areas within the responsibility of the Department for Communities and Local Government. This includes questions on councils, localism, housing, local government finance, town centres, local services, planning and the devolution of powers from central to local government.
Submit your question to the Committee via Twitter, by adding the hashtag #AskPickles to your tweet before 11pm on Monday 8 December.
Clive Betts MP, Chair of the Committee, says:
“Over the five years which Eric Pickles has spent as Communities and Local Government Secretary, there is much to reflect on. Following a very successful session a year ago, we’d like to give those who are interested and involved in local government another chance to put a question to the Secretary of State. We’re looking for short, punchy questions on local government to ask Eric Pickles. And remember the hashtag #AskPickles.”
About this session
The Committee will take evidence from Mr Pickles on Tuesday 16 December. In this session, the Secretary of State will field a selection of the #AskPickles questions put directly by the Members of the Committee.
The Committee held a similar session on 22 January 2014 which can be viewed in full on the Committee’s website. Through the period in which questions were being collected, the #AskPickles hashtag was tweeted or re-tweeted almost 1,600 times and questions on a wide range of issues relating to the Department’s responsibilities were collected.
