The Committee holds an evidence session with the Secretary of State's preferred candidate for the post of Housing Ombudsman.

The Communities and Local Government Committee take evidence from the Government’s preferred candidate for Housing Ombudsman, Denise Fowler, on Tuesday 16 December 2014 at 2.50pm.

The Housing Ombudsman is responsible for investigating complaints from tenants of local authorities and registered social landlords such as housing associations.

Purpose of the session

Since 2008 departmental select committees have had a formal role in the appointment process of some designated public posts which fall under the remit of their respective Government departments. After the current Housing Ombudsman, Dr Mike Biles, left his post at the beginning of November 2014, the Government asked the Committee to give its view on the suitability of the Government’s preferred candidate to replace him, Denise Fowler.

Following the evidence session with Ms Fowler, the Committee will agree and publish a report, setting out for the Government the Committee’s views on the candidate’s suitability.

Have your say

In advance of the session, the Committee invites views on what the key priority should be for the new Housing Ombudsman. Please send your views via Twitter, using the hashtag #NewHousingOmbuds, by midday on Monday 15 December.
