PASC holds a pre-appointment hearing for the new Chair of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments. (ACOBA) conducted under terms agreed between the Government and the Liaison Committee.

Purpose of session

The aim of this session is to examine the nominee’s knowledge and understanding of the role; determine their ability to withstand parliamentary and public scrutiny; and seek to ensure that they can demonstrate independence.

The Government’s preferred candidate for the post is Baroness Browning, is a British Conservative Party politician. She was the Member of Parliament for Tiverton and Honiton from 1997 to 2010, having previously been MP for Tiverton from 1992 to 1997.
