Possible Questions

• What role does ICES play in supporting the required co-operative approach to the EU’s regional seas management, including the intended cross-border application of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive?
• To what extent could a more co-ordinated regional approach to the collection of data on matters such as fisheries, seabed mapping and other aspects of the marine environment assist with the effectiveness of research efforts?
• Is there a particular need for a greater research focus on the cumulative impact of human activities on the marine environment?
• Who, or what, should take responsibility for ensuring that information about the marine environment is widely available? Is the European Marine Observation Data Network (EMODnet) likely to be successful in this regard?
• To what extent are the roles of the various bodies and institutions, including ICES, OSPAR, the EU and Member States clear? How helpful is OSPAR’s Science Agenda?
