Culture, Media and Sport Committee

Witnesses

Tuesday 4 February 2014, at 10.30am, Thatcher Room, Portcullis House

  • Liz Nicholl, OBE, Chief Executive, UK Sport

At 11.30am (approximately)

  • Helen Grant MP, Minister for Sport, Tourism and Equalities

Purpose of session

The Culture, Media and Sport Committee announced an inquiry into women and sport on 26 July 2013, to look into a number of issues that are currently raising concerns. The successes of Team GB’s female athletes in the Olympics last year should have resulted in greater prominence for women’s sporting achievements and encouraged more girls and women to participate in sport. However, it appears that women’s sport still faces a number of disadvantages compared with sport for men.
