Statistics- Future of the census

The Committee is undertaking a series of eleven studies on statistics and their use in Government. It has published reports on several of the studies, including migration statistics, communicating and publishing statistics and conducted post-legislative scrutiny of the Act, which set up the UK Statistics Authority.

The Committee’s session on the Census will consider the options for the future of the Census, as explored in the Office for National Statistics’ Beyond 2011 programme on the future of the Census. The Committee will not be calling for written evidence in advance of the session, given ONS’s recent public consultation on the options. Instead interested parties can submit questions they would wish to be considered by the Committee before the session, either by emailing to the Committee (pasc@parliament.uk), tweeting @CommonsPASC using the hashtag #census or writing to the Committee at 7 Millbank, London, SW1P 3JA.

Witnesses are likely to be academics, experts and other users of the Census; further information on the witnesses will be announced nearer to the date of the session.
