Purpose of session

The committee will first hear from ABTA, the travel association, about its assessment of the FCO’s public information and safety campaigns, its general consular work and its recently revised crisis response.

The following two panels will allow the Committee to hear from three organisations that respond to British nationals and their families when they encounter problems abroad, or provide support at home: Fair Trials International, REDRESS, and Support After Murder and Manslaughter Abroad (SAMM Abroad). This will give the Committee the opportunity to explore how the FCO responds to some of the most serious problems encountered by British nationals abroad, including detention, mistreatment and death, as well as the FCO’s assistance and support for their families at home.
