Lords Arctic Committee hears from leading climate scientists

The House of Lords Select Committee on the Arctic will this week take evidence from leading academics specialising in climate change and sea ice as it continues its new inquiry.
The Committee will take evidence in two sessions on Tuesday 15 July in Committee Room 3A of the House of Lords.
Witnesses
At 10.40 am evidence will be heard from:
- Dr Sheldon Bacon, National Oceanography Centre
- Dr Ed Hawkins, University of Reading
- Professor Chris Rapley, University College London
At 11.40 am evidence will be heard from:
- Professor Danny Feltham, University of Reading
- Professor Andy Shepherd, University of Leeds
- Professor Peter Wadhams, University of Cambridge
Areas of discussion
With the first set of witnesses the questions will focus on the impact of changing global and local temperatures on the Arctic environment, whether the available data on the subject is robust enough to support informed policy making and what impact changing conditions are having on people, wildlife and economic opportunities in the Arctic region.
The second session will cover the short and long term causes of changes to sea ice in the Arctic, what the possible impacts of a decline in Arctic sea ice might be and how far UK research influences policy in the Arctic states.
