England's progress adapting to climate change examined

This follows and takes forward the publication on 9 July 2014 by the Adaptation Sub-Committee of the Committee on Climate Change of its latest progress report 'Managing climate risks to well-being and the economy’.

The Adaptation Sub-Committee reports on the delivery of the Government’s July 2013 National Adaptation Programme (NAP), which set out the actions to be taken by Government, business and society to become more climate ready.

The Environmental Audit Committee wishes to receive submissions, by 1 September 2014, on:

• The recommendations made by the Adaptation Sub-Committee’s Reports.
• The overall structure of the NAP (including comparisons with the adaptation programmes in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), the priorities it presents and the balance between the risks and opportunities of climate change.
• The visions and objectives identified within each of the themes discussed by the NAP, including the proposed metrics for measuring progress. 
• The extent to which the ‘priority actions’ within the NAP are likely to make a real difference in building resilience to climate change.
• The progress of organisations with an adaptation reporting obligation in delivering the priority actions.
• The balance between national, devolved and local delivery of adaptation objectives, and how this affects accountability for climate change adaptation.
