Keith Vaz, Committee Chairman said:

“The police are often the first on the scene in incidents involving those with mental health issues.
 
It is vital we understand the way in which officers deal with these cases to ensure that they are handled appropriately. We cannot afford for people with mental illness to be misdiagnosed in potentially stressful situations.

I hope that the personal testimony and experience of our witnesses will cast a light on an area which still remains largely unknown."
