The Select Committee on Affordable Childcare was announced in the chamber of the House of Lords on Monday 9 June.

The Leader of the House, Lord Hill of Oareford (Conservative), made the announcement. The committees are due to be appointed on 12 June.

Lords committees consider specific policy areas or issues – ranging from short, narrowly focused investigations to broad, long-term inquiries – and produce reports on their findings. Ad hoc committees are set up if the House decides to investigate a subject outside these areas.

This committee will consider issues relating to affordable childcare. It is expected that the Select Committee on Affordable Childcare will submit its recommendations and publish its report by 5 March 2015.
