The Select Committee on Digital Skills was announced in the chamber of the House of Lords on Monday 9 June.

The Leader of the House, Lord Hill of Oareford (Conservative), made the announcement. The committee is due to be appointed on 12 June 2014.

Lords committees consider specific policy areas or issues – ranging from short, narrowly focused investigations to broad, long-term inquiries – and produce reports on their findings. Ad hoc committees are set up if the House decides to investigate a subject outside these areas.

The Select Committee on Digital Skills will consider information and communications technology, competitiveness and skills in the UK. It is expected that the committee will submit its recommendations and publish its report by 5 March 2015.
