At 1.30pm on Thursday 26 June the Public Administration Select Committee (PASC) question Home Office minister James Brokenshire in a debate in Westminster Hall on the Committee’s Report into migration statistics.

The Report

The Committee’s report, published 28 July 2013, found that migration statistics produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Home Office are blunt instruments for measuring, managing, and understanding migration to and from the UK. It said they are not accurate enough to measure the effect of migration on population, particularly in local areas, and they are not detailed enough to measure the social and economic impacts of migration, or the effects of immigration policy.

The Response

The Committee will question the Minister about the Government's Response (PDF 87 KB), published 22 April 2014, and the Prime Minister's comments on the issue when he appeared before the Liaison Committee (the Committee comprised of the Chairs of select committees) in May 2014 and was questioned by the PASC Chair, Bernard Jenkin MP.
