Invasive Species: Evidence Session

The Environmental Audit Committee will hold its final public evidence session with Defra Minister, Lord de Mauley, and official on the Invasive species inquiry at 2.15pm on Wednesday 12 March 2014 in the Thatcher Room, Portcullis House.

The Committee will hear from:

  • Lord de Mauley, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Natural Environment and Science, Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs
  • Trevor Salmon, Head of Invasive Non-Native Policy and Domestic Species Conservation team

The Committee will examine Defra’s work on developing a revised Strategy for invasive species, including approaches to surveillance and control of invasives. It will also examine the Government’s position on the ongoing negotiations in Brussels on a proposed new directive on invasives, and the likelihood of introducing in England the legislative measures proposed recently by the Law Commission, including ‘species control orders’.
