Background

The draft National Policy Statement on National Networks has been published by the Department for Transport to provide more clarity about Government policy in the planning process for major road and rail projects.

We are hearing views about the usefulness of the NPS and on Government policy on the strategic road and rail networks. We will publish our recommendations on the draft NPS in May 2014. The Government must take these into account before publishing the final version of the NPS.
