Clive Betts MP, Chair of the Communities and Local Government Committee, has commented on the National Audit Office's report on the Help to Buy Equity Loan Scheme.

Mr Betts said:

“I am very concerned about the findings of the NAO’s report into the Help to Buy Equity Loan Scheme.  The Department for Communities and Local Government appears to have embarked upon the scheme having made little assessment of the costs and risks involved, or of the benefits the scheme was likely to bring.  I am struggling to square some of the NAO’s findings with information previously provided to the Committee.  I will be seeking assurances from the Secretary of State, Eric Pickles, both about the sustainability of the scheme and the evidence the Department has given us.”
