The Speaker of the House of Commons has announced the result of the election for the Chair of the Defence Select Committee.
The elected Chair is Rory Stewart, Conservative MP for Penrith and The Border.

Over 400 votes in each round were cast. The breakdown of election results shows the details of the votes cast for each candidate at each state of the count.

The candidates
The eight candidates that stood in the ballot were:
- Mr Crispin Blunt, Conservative MP for Reigate
- Mr Julian Brazier, Conservative MP for Canterbury
- Mr Tobias Ellwood, Conservative MP for Bournemouth East
- Mr James Gray, Conservative MP for North Wiltshire
- Dr Julian Lewis, Conservative MP for New Forest East
- Mr Keith Simpson, Conservative MP for Broadland
- Bob Stewart, Conservative MP for Beckenham
- Rory Stewart, Conservative MP for Penrith and The Border

As more than one nomination was received, the ballot was held between 11.00am and 1pm on Wednesday 14 May 2014.
The results were announced to the House by Mr Speaker, as soon as practicable after the votes had been counted.
