Purpose of the session

This session is intended to be wide-ranging, covering the expenditure and administration of the Department for Work and Pensions across its areas of responsibility. The issues the session will cover are likely to include:

  • Overall welfare spending and plans for further reductions
  • Off-payroll arrangements of DWP staff
  • Contribution of DWP policies to increase in employment rate
  • Employment programmes
  • Impact on expenditure of changed timescales for implementing benefit reforms: Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment and ESA/Incapacity Benefit migration
  • Progress with child maintenance reforms
  • Local welfare provision
  • Housing Benefit fraud and error
