North Sea bodies questioned on Regional Marine Co-operation

The Lords Sub-Committee investigating Regional Marine Co-operation will hear from organisations concerned with the North Sea.

The House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries, Environment and Energy will hear from industry and organisations involved in the North Sea in relation to its ongoing inquiry into Regional Marine Co-Operation.

Witnesses

From 11.00am on Wednesday 5 November 2014 the House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries, Environment and Energy will hear evidence from:

  • Darius Campbell, Executive Secretary, OSPAR Commission
  • Matt Nichols, Project Development and Communication Officer, North Sea Region Programme
  • Kate Clarke, Executive Secretary, North Sea Commission

  • What are the purposes of co-operation between north Sea States and what practical examples can you give of North Sea co-operation?
  • What are the main challenges in upscaling, extending and expanding smaller co-operation projects?
  • What resolutions for user conflict have been offered?
  • In your opinion, can maritime spatial plans help to reduce user conflicts in the North Sea Region?
  • What overlaps, gaps and inconsistencies between EU policies affecting the marine environment exist?
  • What is OPSAR's Science Agenda and how does it relate specifically to the North Sea?
  • To what extent can the North Sea draw inspiration from elsewhere in determining how best to manage itself?
  • To what extent does a lack of funding impede effective co-operation, and how can any such concern be resolved?
