The DGP was announced by the Prime Minister at Farnborough 2012 and is jointly led by the Department of Business innovation and Skills and the Defence Industry, with the support of the Ministry of Defence as the UK customer. In September 2013 the DGP published Securing Prosperity—A Strategic Vision for the UK Defence Sector. The document was intended as a “strategic vision for the defence sector” and “identifies the sector’s core strengths and sets out how government and industry will work together to maximise the UK’s competitive advantage to boost British jobs, trade and growth”. On 1 July 2014, the Defence Committee announced its inquiry into the DGP. The DGP Implementation Plan, Delivering Growth: Implementing the strategic vision for the UK Defence Sector, was published on 14 July 2014.
