MPs investigate future of rail freight

The fifth evidence session in the Transport Committee’s investing in the railway inquiry, which aims to scrutinise the impact and deliverability of Network Rail’s £38 billion investment programme and to identify priorities investment for 2019.

Purpose of the session

The Committee takes evidence from two major Freight Operating Companies—Freightliner and GB Railfreight, and from the Rail Freight Group, the representative body for rail freight in the UK.

Topics for discussion include the Government’s approach to rail freight; the balance of investment between freight and passenger transport; the performance of Network Rail in delivering enhancements to freight infrastructure; Freight Access Charges; and priorities for future investment in rail freight.
