Galvanised international action

Over 1 billion people around the world live in poverty. The Sustainable Development Goals, due to be agreed at the United Nations in September 2015, are the successors to the Millennium Development Goals, which galvanised international action on human development. The Sustainable Development Goals also aim to focus attention on the wider global challenges of environmental degradation and climate change.

This session focuses on how to integrate environmental and development priorities into a set of Sustainable Development Goals that are applicable to both developing and developed countries, and the contribution of business and other stakeholders in achieving them.

The Committee explores the proposed goals, including sustainable consumption, climate change, and inequality, as well as how to communicate the goals effectively and track progress.

Previous session

The Committee has previously heard from the DFID Secretary of State, Rt Hon. Justine Greening MP, about the Government’s approach to the Sustainable Development Goals.
