Purpose of the session
The purpose of the session is to assess DWP’s progress in addressing delays in the PIP claims process, since the previous Minister gave oral evidence in December 2013 and the Committee published recommendations (PDF, 584KB) on improving the service to claimants in March 2014.
The session will consider:
- Steps taken by DWP to improve its own processes, including resources devoted to clearing the backlog
- Improvements made to the claims process, including Special Rules claims
- Performance of assessment providers (Atos and Capita) and steps taken by DWP to address performance issues
- Outcomes for claimants – numbers and types of payments awarded compared with projections
- The timetable for and scope of the independent review of the PIP assessment and the likely impact on PIP implementation plans.
