Minister questioned on accuracy of crime statistics

The Public Administration Select Committee (PASC) will question Home Office minister Norman Baker MP in a debate in Westminster Hall on the Committee’s Report into the accuracy of crime statistics.

The Committee's Report
The Committee’s Report “Caught red-handed: Why we can’t count on Police Recorded Crime statistics”, published on 9 April 2014, raised serious concerns about the integrity of crime data. The Committee found that attitudes and behaviours which lead to the mis-recording of crime have become ingrained, including within senior police leadership, leading to the subordination of data integrity to target-chasing. The Committee’s conclusions on police ethics, leadership and values are particularly relevant in the light of the inquiry announced recently by the Committee on Standards in Public Life into police accountability.
