Chairman attends 11th Conference of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region

Lord Teverson, Chairman of the House of Lords Select Committee on the Arctic, attended the 11th Conference of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region, held in Whitehorse, Canada in the second week of September.

The Conference brings together parliamentarians from the eight Arctic states, along with representatives of Arctic indigenous peoples and Arctic Council observer states.

Key themes for the 11th Conference were sustainable infrastructure development, governance models, enhancing northern economies and environmental challenges. Speakers included Tom Paddon, Chairman of the newly formed Arctic Economic Council, United States Senator Lisa Markowski and Canada’s Senior Arctic Official, Ms Susan Harper. Insights gained from the Conference will inform the Committee’s evidence gathering over the coming months.
