GM foods and the precautionary principle in Europe

This is the final session of the Committee’s inquiry into genetically modified (GM) foods and the way in which these are regulated at European level under the precautionary principle.

The first half of the session includes representatives of the key bodies responsible for providing advice to Government on the safety of novel and genetically modified foods and crops.

In the second half of the session, the Committee will hear evidence from the Government itself, represented by Lord de Mauley, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Natural Environment and Science (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) and George Freeman MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Life Sciences (Department for Health and Department for Business, Innovation and Skills).

The Committee meeting will take place on Wednesday 7 January 2015 at 9.15am in Committee Room 15, Palace of Westminster.
