Compliance with UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

The Committee's report will assess:

• the progress that has been made by the Government since its December 2010 commitment to give “due consideration” to the UNCRC when making new policy or legislation and
• some specific aspects of the UK’s record of compliance with the Convention.

It will in particular assess the implications of the changes to the Office of the Children’s Commissioner for England and will analyse the extent to which the situation for children’s rights has improved or deteriorated with regard to those areas on which it has reported over the Parliament: these include the rights of migrant children, child trafficking, children in custody, SEN, and children and legal aid.

The Committee’s end-of-Parliament assessment takes place against the background of the forthcoming review of the UK Government’s full periodic report on the UNCRC by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
