Clive Betts welcomes electronic agendas move as #AskPickles success

The Chair of the Communities and Local Government, Clive Betts MP, today welcomed the Government’s move to scrap rules requiring councils to send paper copies of agendas. The Government agreed to change the law after the Committee raised the matter with the Secretary of State at its #AskPickles session.

Clive Betts MP, Chair of the Committee, said:
I am delighted that the Committee has been instrumental in getting this outdated law scrapped. This is exactly why we do the #AskPickles exercise. It gives those working in local government the opportunity to raise with the Secretary of State small but significant issues of greatest concern to them. The requirement to send out paper copies of agendas was placing an unnecessary and costly burden on council officers. We were able to draw this to the Secretary of State’s attention and, as a result, he has now changed the law so that agendas can be sent out electronically
