- Inquiry: Jay Report into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham
- Communities and Local Government Committee
Background
This inquiry was launched in September 2014 following the publication of the Jay report into sexual exploitation of children in Rotherham. In its Third Report of Session 2014-15, 'Child sexual exploitation in Rotherham: some issues for local government', published on 18 November, the Committee considered that the Jay Report gave rise to serious questions about the responsibilities of Ofsted in relation to the inspection of children’s services at Rotherham Council and indicated its intention to take evidence from Ofsted on the organisation’s record in reviewing these services.
This evidence session seeks answers from the current Ofsted Director with responsibility for inspecting children’s services as well as examining wider questions such whether or not Rotherham is symptomatic of a wider problem amongst local authorities in England.
