The Lords Science and Technology Committee, investigating the resilience of the electricity supply in the UK, will question Ed Davey MP, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, on Tuesday 20 January.

Background

The Committee’s final evidence session will ask the Government Minister if enough is being done to prevent severe blackouts in the near future.

Witness

Tuesday 20 January, Committee Room 4A, Palace of Westminster

At 11.30am:

  • The Rt Hon Edward Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, DECC

Questions

Questions that the Committee will ask include:

  • What has the Government done to prepare for a major emergency?
  • How are these plans tested?
  • Is the Government confident that it has done enough to prevent severe outages, especially over the next two years?
  • Who is ultimately responsible for the resilience of the electricity system?
  • Is the Government on track to secure an affordable, low carbon electricity system?
  • How expensive is decarbonisation going to be?
  • Does the transition to a low carbon system need a so-called system architect to oversee it?
