Lords Members to attend inter-parliamentary conference on CFSP and CSDP

On 4-6 March, Lord Tugendhat, Chairman of the EU External Affairs Sub-Committee, and Lord Bowness, former Chairman of the EU External Affairs Sub-Committee, and current Member of the EU Sub-Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries, Environment and Energy, will represent the House of Lords at the Inter-Parliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy in Riga, Latvia.

The conference will be hosted under the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the EU. It will bring together parliamentarians from national parliaments of Member States and candidate states, and a wide array of keynote speakers. Topics

The conference will hold debates on a number of themes, including

  • the State of Play of the European Neighbourhood Policy;
  • the European Common Security and Defence Policy and NATO;
  • Priorities and Tasks of the Common Foreign and Security Policy;
  • Redefining the Eastern Partnership and
  • Hybrid War.

Keynote speakers

Keynote speakers will include the High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, and Mr Alexander Vershbow, Deputy Secretary General of NATO.
