The Defence Committee examines the ability of NATO to respond to Russia, Russian defence policy and it's nuclear arms control obligations.

Purpose of the session

The Committee seeks to:

  • Understand the interpretation within Russia of the inquiry, with a view to better engaging to hear important Russian perspectives.
  • Understand the ability of NATO to respond to Russia, and how NATO is viewed by Russia to improve understanding between nations.
  • Explore Russian defence policy and related actions internationally.
  • Understand what evidence there is of Russian disinformation and propaganda in addition to honest diplomacy, and how effective this is.
  • Explore Russia’s nuclear strategy and nuclear arms control obligations.
