Purpose of the session

The session focuses on how the Code is seen by the public and how it could be used to increase public confidence in standards. Issues to be covered may include:

• The principles behind the Code
• How easy the Code is to understand
• Factors affecting public confidence in the Code
• Key questions from the Commissioner's ongoing review

This evidence session is part of the Committee on Standards' programme of work which aims to ensure an open and informed discussion during the Parliamentary Commissioner's independent review of the Code of Conduct and the Guide to the Rules. Further evidence sessions and opportunities to contribute to the Committee's work in this area will be announced in due course.
