Background

The Code of Conduct sets out the responsibilities that Members of Parliament have. The principles described in the Code are used to inform the Guide to the Rules relating to the conduct of Members, which sets out in detail MPs’ obligations to register and declare their financial interests, and the restrictions on lobbying for reward or consideration.

The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards is responsible for investigating complaints made against Members of Parliament. Her work is overseen by the Committee on Standards.
