The Defence sub-Committee hold its second oral evidence session into Defence in the Arctic.

Purpose of the Session

The first panel will discuss the general situation regarding what many have observed as a militarisation of the Arctic and the High North, what the drivers of this activity are, the current capabilities and intentions of the Arctic nations, and what possible future flashpoints there might be in the region.

The second panel will examine historic and current UK capabilities relevant to operations in the Arctic and High in the maritime, land and air domains. This will include discussing the relevance of the Arctic to UK security, the development of historic and current capabilities which might address threats emanating from the High North, and the role of NATO in the region.
