The Work and Pensions Committee holds a pre-appointment hearing with Dr Stephen Brien, the Government’s preferred candidate for Chair of the Social Security Advisory Committee (SSAC).

- Dr Stephen Brien, Government’s preferred candidate for Chair of the Social Security Advisory Committee
The SSAC is an independent body set up to provide impartial advice on social security matters to the DWP and to scrutinise secondary legislation related to the welfare system. Dr Brien is currently Director of Policy at the Legatum Institute and is a former adviser to the Department for Work and Pensions.
Following the hearing, the Committee will publish a short report making recommendations to the DWP on Dr Brien’s suitability for the role.
