Minister and finance representatives questioned on access to finance

The Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) Committee questions the Minister for Small Business, Executive Director of Strategy and Competition at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Chief Executive Officer at British Business Bank as part of its Access to finance inquiry.

Purpose of session

The Committee questions Mr Woolard and Mr Morgan on:

  • the FCA's approach to regulating an evolving alternative finance sector while Mr Morgan will be asked
  • how the British Business Bank, described as the "centre of expertise for SME finance", identifies barriers to finance and what solutions they propose

The Committee questions Ms Soubry on:  

  • finance obstacles to small businesses starting up and expanding and the extent to which issues around access to finance are actually issues around access to information and advice
  • the Minister's views on alternative finance
